Want to learn more about how cooperative businesses benefit the local community and economy?

You’re invited to join us on Thursday, June 7th at LaTourelle located at 1150 Danby Road for presentations by local businesses such as GreenStar, Ithaca Biodiesel, Handwork, Alternatives Federal Credit Union, and CoLab CoOp as part of Community Capital Week presented by Local First Ithaca.

This event features an informative panel presentation by leaders and members of local cooperative businesses that will share their experiences starting and running different models for cooperative ownership, membership, and community participation, and their impact on the local economy.

– Joe Romano of GreenStar Natural Foods Market shares how the co-op has contributed to more than 40 years of collective buying power and a healthier community.

– Carol Schmook from Handwork, Ithaca’s Cooperative Craft Store, discusses how the store has created opportunities for regional artists since 1976.

– McKenzie Jones-Rounds talks with us about the Ithaca Biodiesel Cooperative and how vegetable oil and biodiesel as alternative sources of fuel can bring us closer to energy independence.

– Karl Graham explains how Alternatives Federal Credit Union has provided opportunities for people and communities to grow wealth as well as strong relationships as a member owned, not-for-profit cooperative.

– Rylan Peery and Ralph Cutler from Colab CoOp discuss Colab as a shared workspace and their efforts to help businesses harness the power of the internet to serve humanity and the planet!
